engagement sessions are one of my favorite things to do.  it provides such a great time for me to get to know my clients before their wedding day that otherwise i would not have.  not only does it allow me to get to know my clients better and for them to get to know me, but it gives them a chance to know what it is like to be in front of my camera.  they get used to how i direct, or sometimes how little i direct.  they get to know what i am looking for in a shot and why i ask them to do something that they might think is silly or weird.  it gives them a chance to trust me. that way, on their wedding day, they can know what to expect.

but like i said before, one of my favorite things about our time together is just getting to know my clients.  i love hearing how they met, how long they've been together, and just seeing how they love each other.

i had such a great time hanging out with jessica and jeff and getting to hear their story.  they were really natural in front of the camera and just looked at ease being themselves.  not only that, but they let me drag them all over to do what i love, get in great light.....here are some of my favs.

so after so much yucky weather the month of october, we were finally blessed with some sunlight!!  i could not have been more excited when i woke up to see this bright yellow thing in the sky.  i have increasingly become more and more obsessed with natural light this past year and use it every opportunity that i can.  if i have a chance to shoot into the light, i will do it.  i love love love love it.  not to say you can't get great, crisp, smooth images out of a cloudy day, but there is just something inside me that screams with joy when the sun comes out and hits my lens.  needless to say, i hadn't had the opportunity to shoot into light pretty much the whole month of october so when the sun came out this day, i took full advantage of it!

i had such a great time hanging out with matt and ashley and their two precious dogs.  i can't wait til your wedding next summer!!

this past saturday i had the privilege of hanging out with rebecca and scott.  rebecca and scott had scoped out the prefect location for out session and when we got there.....well, there was not one wedding going on, but two!  so we had to make a little change in plans.....we just went across the street near the water and waited to see if we could get back to our original plan after the weddings were over......well, we snuck our way over there eventually, just in time for the sun to finally come out!!  rebecca and scott were so sweet and i just had the best time getting to know them better before their wedding.  here are some of my favorite shots

last weekend i got to hang out with mary beth and chad to shoot their engagement session for their november wedding.  mary beth really wanted some "green" pics and some urban pics too.  we tried starting out at the ut gardens but got denied!!!  they were having some kind of event their and wouldn't let us on the grounds.  not even for a minute....i panicked a little and thought to try the botanical gardens ( one of my most favorite places) hoping that it didn't have a wedding....well, it did.......panicking again, we almost headed to sequoia hills when i decided we should give it a shot anyway...we did and i'm so glad we stayed!  we got take advantage of my most favorite light and then head down to the old city where i got to be a little spy on their quasi date.

mary beth and chad, i had the best time hanging out with you guys and cannot wait til your wedding!! the countdown is on!!!!
